Quantified Self is a collaboration of users and tool makers across the globe who share an interest in self knowledge through self-tracking. Boon created a new identity system launched on 28 May, 2011 for for the first QS Conference held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. In the words of QS director Alexandra Carmichael, the new logo exemplifies the core of Quantified Self’s mission, to enable people to “fill in the gaps of their own information.” We built a bespoke typographic icon inspired by the concept of illuminating data, and selected Wim Crouwel’s Gridnik for the wordmark and primary typography. We wanted to highlight the human touch in the letterforms, so the S became a unique opportunity to introduce asymmetry into the equation. For the conference we created A1 signage, program booklets, A1 posters, and t-shirts. Thanks to all of our print vendors for making this happen so gracefully under pressure.
